न नाथमधिगच्छन्ति वध्यमाना महारणे । उस महासमरमें असुरोंकी मार खाकर वे सब देवता भागते हुए कहीं कोई रक्षक नहीं पा रहे थे। किन्हींके सिर फट गये थे तो किन्हींके सब अंगोंमें गहरे घाव हो गये थे ।। ६७ ई || अथ तद् दिद्रुतं सैन्यं दृष्टवा देव: पुरंदर:,तदनन्तर बलासुरविनाशक देवराज इन्द्रने अपनी उस सेनाको दानवोंसे पीड़ित होकर भागती देख उसे आश्वासन देते हुए कहा--'शूरवीरो! भय त्याग दो, इससे तुम्हारा मंगल होगा। हथियार उठाओ और पराक्रममें मन लगाओ। तुम्हें किसी प्रकार व्यथित नहीं होना चाहिये। इन भयंकर दिखायी देनेवाले दुराचारी दानवोंको जीतो। तुम्हारा कल्याण हो। तुम सब लोग मेरे साथ इन महाकाय दैत्योंपर टूट पड़ो।' इन्द्रकी यह बात सुनकर देवताओंको बड़ी सान्त्वना मिली

Mārkaṇḍeya dijo: «Acribillados en la gran batalla, no hallaban protector alguno. Golpeados por los asuras en aquel vasto combate, los dioses huían afligidos, incapaces de encontrar refugio. A unos se les había partido la cabeza; otros llevaban hondas heridas en los miembros. Al ver a aquel ejército en fuga, Indra—Purandara, destructor de Bala y señor de los dioses—les habló para infundirles ánimo: “¡Héroes, arrojad el miedo; será para vuestro bien! Tomad las armas y poned la mente en el valor. No debéis vacilar en modo alguno. Venced a estos demonios malvados que sólo parecen terribles. Que os sea propicio. Venid conmigo y arremeted contra estos daityas gigantescos”. Al oír las palabras de Indra, los dioses quedaron muy reconfortados.»

The devas are being routed by asuras in a fierce battle and flee, wounded and unable to find protection. Indra (Purandara) sees their retreat, reassures them, urges them to abandon fear, take up weapons, and attack the gigantic daityas together; his words console and steady the gods.
