The verse highlights the ideal of long, disciplined ascetic practice and suggests that divine beings may assume the role of a muni to uphold dharma—linking spiritual authority to sustained tapas and righteous dwelling in sacred places.
Arjuna addresses Kṛṣṇa and recalls (or seeks confirmation of) an ancient episode: Kṛṣṇa once wandered on Mount Gandhamādana for ten thousand years in the guise of the sage Yatra-sāyaṃ-gṛha, identified with Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi.
