Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 30: Sañjaya’s Departure and Yudhiṣṭhira’s Commission of Greetings
भ्रातृणां देहि पञ्चानां पठ्च ग्रामान् सुयोधन । शान्तिनोस्तु महाप्राज्ञ ज्ञातिभि: सह संजय
bhrātṝṇāṃ dehi pañcānāṃ pañca grāmān suyodhana | śāntir no 'stu mahāprajña jñātibhiḥ saha sañjaya ||
Yudhiṣṭhira dijo: «Oh Suyodhana, concédenos a nosotros, los cinco hermanos, cinco aldeas. Oh Sañjaya, sabio eminente, si esto se hace, la paz podrá mantenerse para nosotros junto con nuestros parientes».
युधिछिर उवाच
Even when one has strong claims, dharma favors restraint and reconciliation: Yudhiṣṭhira asks only for a minimal share—five villages for five brothers—so that peace with relatives may be maintained and war averted.
During the pre-war negotiations in the Udyoga Parva, Yudhiṣṭhira voices a compromise to Duryodhana (Suyodhana), conveyed in the diplomatic context involving Sañjaya, proposing that granting five villages would secure peace among the Kauravas and Pāṇḍavas.
