जल, आकाश, पृथ्वी, वायु और अग्नि--इन भूतोंसे भिन्न कोई तत्त्व कभी नहीं था; इसमें संशय नहीं है ।।

Asita uvāca — jalaṃ ākāśaṃ pṛthvī vāyuś cāgniś ca—ebhyo bhūtebhyo bhinnaṃ kiñcid api tattvaṃ kadācana nāsīt; atra saṃśayo nāsti. nopapattyā na vā yuktyā tv asad brūyād asaṃśayam. vetthaitān abhinirvattān ṣaḍ ete yasya rāśayaḥ.

Asita dijo: «Agua, espacio, tierra, viento y fuego: aparte de estos elementos, jamás ha existido otro principio; de ello no hay duda. Ni por prueba válida ni por razonamiento sólido puede establecerse realidad alguna más allá de estos seis. Por eso, quien afirme otra doctrina, sin duda miente. Tú conoces estos seis principios tal como se manifiestan en todos los efectos, y conoces también la fuente causal a la que pertenecen esos efectos.»
