Disciplined vow-observance and ascetic practice generate tejas (spiritual potency) that can manifest powerfully; such manifestations should be understood as the natural fruit of tapas and not feared or resented.
Vāyu explains that the appearance of fire is not an external threat but the outward manifestation of his own radiance produced through strict observance of ascetic vows, and he reassures the listeners not to be distressed by it.
