अनुक्रमणिकाध्यायः (Anukramaṇikā Adhyāya) — Invocation, Narrator Frame, and Textual Scope

तमाश्रममनुप्राप्तं नैमिषारण्यवासिनाम्‌ । चित्रा: श्रोतुं कथास्तत्र परिवब्रुस्तपस्विन:,उस समय नैमिषारण्यवासियोंके आश्रममें पधारे हुए उन उग्रश्रवाजीको, उनसे चित्र- विचित्र कथाएँ सुननेके लिये, सब तपस्वियोंने वहीं घेर लिया

tam āśramam anuprāptaṃ naimiṣāraṇyavāsinām | citrāḥ śrotuṃ kathās tatra parivavrus tapaspinaḥ ||

Cuando Ugraśravas llegó a la ermita de los sabios que habitaban en Naimiṣāraṇya, los ascetas se reunieron allí a su alrededor, ansiosos por escuchar relatos maravillosos y variados. La escena enmarca un ámbito dhármico: buscadores disciplinados se acercan a la narración sagrada como medio de aprendizaje y reflexión moral.
