Vedantic Theme: Dharma

Application: Adopt regular śravaṇa—daily reading/recitation of Purāṇic narratives with faith—especially before sleep to steady the mind and cultivate sattva.

Vishishtadvaita: Grace operates through nāma-kathā and śravaṇa: the Lord’s order (niyantṛtva) becomes experientially accessible via sacred narrative, not merely abstract speculation.

FAQs

This verse presents a phalaśruti: listening to Pṛthu’s birth and glory is said to calm inauspicious dreams and continuously generate auspiciousness for people.

In the Parāśara–Maitreya dialogue, the narrator often attaches a stated fruit to sacred narration; here, the fruit is the pacification of duḥsvapna and the steady arising of well-being through attentive hearing.

Even when Vishnu is not named in the verse, the Vishnu Purana frames righteous kings and their fame as operating within Vishnu’s cosmic sovereignty—so hearing such dharmic history functions as a spiritually auspicious act aligned with the Supreme Order.
