bho bhoḥ kṣatriyadāyāda nirvedād yat tvayādhunā kartuṃ vyavasitaṃ tan naḥ kathyatāṃ yadi rocate
Ho! Ho, heir of the Kṣatriyas—if, out of dispassion, you have now resolved upon some course of action, then tell it to us, if it pleases you.
Attendants/courtiers (addressing a Kshatriya prince/king within the dynasty narrative; framed by Parasara narrating to Maitreya)
Concept: Dispassion (nirveda) becomes the motive force for seeking a higher course beyond ordinary aims.
Vedantic Theme: Dharma
Application: Notice dissatisfaction with transient goals and convert it into clear inquiry and purposeful seeking rather than cynicism.
Vishishtadvaita: The impulse of vairagya is framed as a turn toward a higher puruṣārtha ultimately fulfilled by dependence on the Supreme.
This verse treats nirveda as the catalyst for a decisive inner shift—when a royal heir turns from ordinary aims toward a higher, value-driven resolve, inviting disclosure and counsel.
Through dynasty episodes, Parasara (to Maitreya) often shows that worldly sovereignty is unstable, and the most meaningful decisions arise when rulers recognize impermanence and choose dharma-aligned action.
Even when Vishnu is not named, the Purana’s royal narratives are oriented toward Vishnu’s cosmic order—true sovereignty is ultimately subordinate to the Supreme Reality who sustains dharma and time-cycles.
