agastyasyā'śrame ramye nṛṇāṃ pāpabhayāpahe | tatra gaṃgeśvaraṃ dṛṣṭvā abhakṣyodbhavapātakāt | mucyate nātra saṃdehaḥ snānadānajapādinā
In Agastya’s delightful āśrama, which removes people’s fear of sin, by beholding Gaṅgeśvara one is freed from sins arising from forbidden food—of this there is no doubt—especially through bathing, charity, japa, and the like.
Īśvara (Śiva) (deduced from dialogue frame)
Tirtha: Gaṅgeśvara at Agastya-āśrama
Type: kshetra
Listener: Devī (Pārvatī)
Scene: A serene hermitage-temple setting: Agastya’s āśrama with a Śiva-liṅga named Gaṅgeśvara; pilgrims approach after bathing, offering water, bilva leaves, and gifts; the atmosphere emphasizes release from guilt and fear.
Pilgrimage and devotion, joined with ethical repair through rites, can cleanse even serious transgressions.
