परितुष्टोऽस्मि ते चंद्र वरं वरय सुव्रत । किं ते कामं करोम्यद्य ब्रूहि यत्स्यात्सुदुर्ल्लभम्
parituṣṭo'smi te caṃdra varaṃ varaya suvrata | kiṃ te kāmaṃ karomyadya brūhi yatsyātsudurllabham
“I am fully pleased with you, O Candra. Choose a boon, O you of noble vow. What desire of yours shall I fulfill today? Speak—even that which is most difficult to obtain.”
Śiva (Rudra / Maheśvara)
Tirtha: Prabhāsa-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: Varavarṇinī (female interlocutor)
Scene: Rudra addressing Candra with compassion and majesty, offering any boon—even the hardest to obtain; divine presence intimate yet awe-inspiring.
When devotion is disciplined (suvrata) and sustained, Śiva’s grace manifests as both darśana and the granting of boons.
Prabhāsa-kṣetra, as the sacred locale where Śiva becomes directly pleased and bestows a boon.
Implicitly, tapas and vow-observance are affirmed as efficacious; the verse itself is the boon-invitation rather than a ritual rule.
