यादृशेन तु भर्त्रा स्त्री संयुज्येत यथाविधि । सा तादृगेव भवति समुद्रेणेव निम्नगा
yādṛśena tu bhartrā strī saṃyujyeta yathāvidhi | sā tādṛgeva bhavati samudreṇeva nimnagā
A woman who is joined, as prescribed, to a husband of a certain character becomes of that very character—just as a river becomes one with the ocean.
Īśvara (Śiva)
Tirtha: Prabhāsa-kṣetra (frame)
Type: kshetra
Listener: (Frame) Śaunaka-ādi ṛṣis
Scene: A contemplative tableau: a river flowing steadily into a vast ocean, while a couple stands near a sacred fire, symbolizing yathāvidhi union and the merging of qualities.
Association transforms: righteous union and right conduct shape character, just as a river’s identity culminates in the ocean.
The teaching is delivered within the Prabhāsa Kṣetra Māhātmya narrative frame.
“Yathāvidhi” implies the prescribed marital rite/ethical order, but no specific ceremony is detailed in this verse.
