अभाग्यैरिव लोकेषु तारकः स्कंदमाययौ । जग्राह च गदां दिव्यां लक्षघंटादुरासदाम्
abhāgyairiva lokeṣu tārakaḥ skaṃdamāyayau | jagrāha ca gadāṃ divyāṃ lakṣaghaṃṭādurāsadām
Like ill-fortune descending upon the worlds, Tāraka advanced toward Skanda by māyā; and he seized a divine mace, formidable with the peal of a hundred thousand bells.

Scene: Tāraka strides forward like embodied misfortune, towering and grim; he lifts a divine mace studded with innumerable bells, whose thunderous peal rolls across the field as Skanda faces him for the decisive clash.
