īśvara uvāca | pulomakanye yaścaiṣa tvayākāri manorathaḥ | lapsyase vratacaryātastatkuruṣva jiteṃdriye
Īśvara said: O daughter of Pulomā, this very wish you have conceived you shall attain through the disciplined observance of a vow (vrata). Therefore undertake it, O self-controlled one.
Īśvara (Śiva)
Tirtha: Kāśī-kṣetra (contextual)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Pulomā-kanyā (Paulomī)
Scene: Śiva, as compassionate teacher, instructs Pulomā’s daughter to attain her wish through disciplined vrata; the mood is calm, directive, and grace-filled.
Puranic dharma links rightful desires to self-discipline: boons are accessed through vrata, restraint, and devotion.
The instruction belongs to Kāśī-khaṇḍa, reinforcing Kāśī as a sacred arena for powerful vratas and Śiva’s grace.
Vrata-caryā (disciplined observance of a vow) is prescribed, with emphasis on jitendriyatā (sense-control).
