व्यास उवाच । शृणु सूत प्रवक्ष्यामि कथां कलशजन्मनः । यामाकर्ण्य नरो भूयाद्विरजा ज्ञानभाजनम्
vyāsa uvāca | śṛṇu sūta pravakṣyāmi kathāṃ kalaśajanmanaḥ | yāmākarṇya naro bhūyādvirajā jñānabhājanam
Vyāsa said: Listen, O Sūta. I shall relate the story of the one born from the water-pot (Agastya). Hearing it, a person becomes stainless and fit to receive true knowledge.
Vyāsa
Listener: Sūta
Scene: Frame dialogue: Vyāsa addresses Sūta, announcing the Agastya story; a hermitage setting with manuscripts, kusa grass seats, and attentive assembly.
Purāṇic listening (kathā-śravaṇa) purifies the listener and prepares the mind as a vessel for liberating knowledge.
The immediate site is not named in this verse; it introduces a Kāśīkhaṇḍa narrative that unfolds within Kāśī’s sacred landscape.
The implied sādhana is attentive listening to the kathā; no dāna, snāna, or vrata is specified here.
