Any man who, showing contempt for these brāhmaṇas, fails to come—he shall be liable to death and punishment, and shall be banished outside my realm.
Rāma (contextual; royal proclamation)
Scene: A king (Rāma) issues a stern proclamation: anyone who insults or fails to approach the assembled brāhmaṇas will face punishment and exile; courtiers stand tense as the edict is declared.
Society is upheld when the learned and righteous are protected and disrespect toward them is checked.
Dharmāraṇya’s sanctity is defended through strict enforcement of respect toward its brāhmaṇas.
Not a ritual, but a legal-ethical injunction: contempt of brāhmaṇas invites punitive consequences.
