मां पातु देवोऽखिलदेवतात्मा संसारकूपे पतितं गभीरे । तन्नाम दिव्यं वरमंत्रमूलं धुनोतु मे सर्वमघं हृदिस्थम्
māṃ pātu devo'khiladevatātmā saṃsārakūpe patitaṃ gabhīre | tannāma divyaṃ varamaṃtramūlaṃ dhunotu me sarvamaghaṃ hṛdistham
May that Deva—whose very essence is all the gods—protect me, fallen into the deep well of saṃsāra. May His divine Name, the excellent root of mantra, shake off all sin that abides within my heart.
Anonymous Purāṇic narrator (kavaca-style supplication)
Scene: A devotee at the edge of a dark, deep well labeled ‘saṃsāra’; from above descends a stream of luminous syllables (Śiva-nāma) that becomes a rope of light pulling the devotee upward; the heart glows as impurities scatter.
Śiva’s Name is a mantra-root that purifies the heart and lifts one from the depths of saṃsāra.
No tīrtha is specified; the verse glorifies the saving power of the Lord’s divine Name.
Implicit nāma-japa (recollection/recitation of the divine Name) as a purifier and protector.
