Adhyaya 71

Shlokas

Verse 1

श्रीमार्कण्डेय उवाच । कामेश्वरं ततश्चान्यच्छृणु पाण्डवसत्तम । सिद्धो यत्र गणाध्यक्षो गौरीपुत्रो महाबलः

Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said: Then hear of another sacred place—Kāmeśvara, O best of the Pāṇḍavas—where the mighty son of Gaurī, the chief of Śiva’s gaṇas, is perfected (siddha).

Verse 2

तत्र तीर्थे तु यो भक्त्या भक्तियुक्तो जितेन्द्रियः । पञ्चामृतेन संस्नाप्य धूपनैवेद्यपूजनैः

At that tīrtha, whoever—self-controlled and steadfast in devotion—worships, bathing (the deity) with the five nectars (pañcāmṛta) and honoring him with incense, food-offerings, and ritual pūjā—

Verse 3

प्रसाद्य जगतामीशं सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते । अष्टम्यां मार्गशीर्षस्य तत्र स्नात्वा युधिष्ठिर

—having pleased the Lord of the worlds, one is released from all sins. And, O Yudhiṣṭhira, by bathing there on the eighth lunar day (aṣṭamī) of Mārgaśīrṣa,

Verse 4

यो येन यजते तत्र स तं काममवाप्नुयात्

Whatever (deity) one worships there, by whatever mode, one attains that very desired aim.
