Adhyaya 123
This adhyāya gives a brief tīrtha-māhātmya spoken by Mārkaṇḍeya to a royal listener. He directs the hearer to go to the eminent Karmadī-tīrtha, where Vighneśa (Gaṇanātha), mighty in strength (mahābala), is present. Bathing at this tīrtha—optionally joined with upavāsa on caturthī—is said to neutralize obstacles (vighna) across seven births. Dāna performed there yields akṣaya-phala, imperishable merit, affirmed as a doctrinal assurance beyond doubt.
Shlokas
Verse 1
मार्कण्डेय उवाच । ततो गच्छेत्तु राजेन्द्र कर्मदीतीर्थमुत्तमम् । यत्र तिष्ठति विघ्नेशो गणनाथो महाबलः
Mārkaṇḍeya said: Then, O king, one should go to the excellent Karmadī Tīrtha, where Vighneśa—the mighty lord of the Gaṇas—abides.
Verse 2
तत्र तीर्थे नरः स्नात्वा चतुर्थ्यां वा ह्युपोषितः । विघ्नं न विद्यते तस्य सप्तजन्मनि भारत
At that tīrtha, if a person bathes—and also fasts on the fourth lunar day—no obstacle arises for him for seven births, O Bhārata.
Verse 3
तत्र तीर्थे हि यत्किंचिद्दीयते नृपसत्तम । तदक्षयफलं सर्वं जायते नात्र संशयः
O best of kings, whatever gift is given at that tīrtha yields imperishable fruit in every respect—of this there is no doubt.
