Procedure for the Earthen Liṅga Worship
यथा तथा त्वदीयोस्मि सर्वभावैर्महेश्वर । रक्षणीयस्त्वयाहं वै प्रसीद परमेश्वर
yathā tathā tvadīyosmi sarvabhāvairmaheśvara | rakṣaṇīyastvayāhaṃ vai prasīda parameśvara
O Maheśvara, in every way and with all my inner dispositions, I am Yours alone. Indeed, I am to be protected by You—be gracious to me, O Parameśvara.
A devotee (as narrated by Suta Goswami in the Viśveśvarasaṃhitā context)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
It expresses śaraṇāgati (total refuge): the soul (paśu) acknowledges it belongs to Śiva (Pati) and seeks His anugraha (grace), which is central to liberation in Shaiva Siddhanta.
The plea for protection and grace is typically offered to Saguna Śiva—often worshipped as the Śiva-liṅga—where devotion becomes a living relationship: the devotee entrusts themselves to the Lord’s guardianship.
A practical takeaway is daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a surrender-prayer at the liṅga, ideally with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and a simple request for Śiva’s protection and inner purification.
