Procedure for the Earthen Liṅga Worship
अज्ञानाद्यदि वा ज्ञानाज्जप पूजादिकं मया । कृतं तदस्तु सफलं कृपया तव शंकर
ajñānādyadi vā jñānājjapa pūjādikaṃ mayā | kṛtaṃ tadastu saphalaṃ kṛpayā tava śaṃkara
O Śaṅkara, whether from ignorance or with true understanding I have performed japa, pūjā, and other acts of worship—by Your compassion, let all that I have done become fruitful and fulfilled.
Suta Goswami (narrating a devotional prayer within the Vidyeshvara Samhita context)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Significance: General: emphasizes that ritual acts (japa/pūjā) bear fruit only when sealed by Śiva’s grace—core Siddhānta soteriology.
Mantra: अज्ञानाद्यदि वा ज्ञानाज्जप पूजादिकं मया । कृतं तदस्तु सफलं कृपया तव शंकर
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that the true completion (siddhi) of japa and pūjā depends on Śiva’s anugraha (grace); even imperfect practice, done with devotion, becomes fruitful when offered to Pati (Lord Śiva).
Linga/Saguṇa worship emphasizes offering one’s actions—mantra, ārādhana, and services—into Śiva’s presence; this verse is a concluding surrender that asks Śiva to accept and perfect the offering despite the worshipper’s limitations.
Regular japa (especially pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) along with pūjā, concluding with a humble prayer that Śiva, through compassion, make the practice successful—an attitude central to vrata and Mahāśivarātri worship.
