Then, with devotion, reciting the mantra “Rudrāya” (“unto Rudra/Śiva”), the follower of the Vedic path should indeed offer a beautiful seat (āsana) in worship.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Significance: Offering āsana is an upacāra that ritually acknowledges Śiva’s sovereign presence; it trains the paśu (devotee) into disciplined devotion, preparing for grace.
Mantra: rudrāya …
Type: rudram
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that devotion (bhakti) must be united with mantra and proper upacāra: honoring Śiva as Rudra and offering āsana cultivates reverence, inner steadiness, and receptivity to Śiva’s grace.
Offering āsana is a standard upacāra in saguna worship—treating the Liṅga as the living presence of Rudra. The mantra ‘Rudrāya’ fixes the mind on Śiva’s personal, worshipable form while acknowledging His supreme divinity.
Perform pūjā in Vedic order: recite ‘Rudrāya’ as a mantra and offer a clean, pleasing seat (āsana) to Śiva—externally in ritual and internally by establishing a steady, respectful posture and focused mind.
