Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the prescribed method of Śiva-worship to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: Kāśī is upheld as the paradigmatic kṣetra where kṣetra-śuddhi (purification of sacred space) is essential; Śiva as Viśveśvara/Sadāśiva is approached through orderly pūjā-krama, beginning with sanctifying the field and offerings.
Significance: Kṣetra-śuddhi and consecration of pañcāmṛta prepare the devotee and offerings, symbolically removing mala and māyā-born impurity (pāśa) before approaching Pati.
Mantra: śaṃbhavāya … ; namaḥ …
Type: rudram
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
It teaches that Śiva-pūjā begins with inner and outer purification: sanctifying the space and sanctifying offerings so the act becomes fit for communion with Pati (Śiva) and supports liberation-oriented devotion.
Purifying the kṣetra and consecrating pañcāmṛta prepares substances used in Linga-abhiṣeka, honoring Saguna Śiva through tangible rites while orienting the mind toward His transcendent purity.
Perform kṣetra-śuddhi by reciting “Śaṃbhavāya,” then do prokṣaṇa (sprinkling) of pañcāmṛta with a “namaḥ”-mantra before offering it in Śiva worship.
