Sins arising from improper acceptance of gifts, forbidden or impure food, harsh and harmful speech, and similar faults—this Saṃhitā destroys them by even a single act of recitation or praise.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not tied to a jyotirliṅga; it enumerates everyday pāśa (bondage) sources—tainted gifts, impure food, harmful speech—and asserts śāstra-kīrtana as their remover.
Significance: Encourages even minimal engagement (‘sakṛt’) with śiva-kathā as a purifier of subtle ethical faults that bind the soul.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It teaches that Śiva-kathā and the recitation of this Saṃhitā have intrinsic purifying power, burning karmic impurities caused by unethical conduct (especially in receiving, eating, and speaking) and turning the mind toward devotion to Pati—Lord Śiva.
Recitation is presented as a direct limb of Saguna Śiva-bhakti: praising Śiva (often alongside Linga worship) purifies the devotee and makes one fit for Linga-sevā, mantra-japa, and temple/pilgrimage observances described in the Purāṇa.
Regular kīrtana/paṭhana (chanting or reading) of Śiva Purāṇa passages—ideally accompanied by Panchākṣarī japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and a disciplined life of pure food and truthful, gentle speech.
