Bondage and Liberation: The Prakṛti–Karma Wheel and Śiva as the Transcendent Cause
वित्ताभावे दरिद्र स्तु यथाशक्ति समाचरेत् । भैरवस्य महापूजां कुर्याद्भूतादिशांतये
vittābhāve daridra stu yathāśakti samācaret | bhairavasya mahāpūjāṃ kuryādbhūtādiśāṃtaye
If, for lack of wealth, one is poor, one should still perform worship according to one’s capacity. For the pacification of bhūtas—spirits—and other disturbing forces, one should undertake the great worship of Bhairava.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Bhairava
Significance: Affirms that even materially constrained devotees may approach Śiva; Bhairava-upāsanā is prescribed as a remedial means for bhūta-preta disturbances and fear, restoring ritual and mental purity for continued sādhana.
Type: stotra
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that devotion is not dependent on wealth: even a poor devotee should worship as per capacity, and Bhairava—Shiva’s protective form—removes disturbances so sādhana and bhakti can proceed steadily.
Bhairava is a saguna (personal) manifestation of Shiva associated with protection and the removal of fear; worship of Bhairava supports Linga-worship by clearing obstacles and restoring inner and outer peace for focused devotion.
Perform Bhairava mahāpūjā according to one’s means—offering simple items with sincerity, accompanied by Shiva-mantra japa (such as the Panchākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as a practical takeaway for protection and calm.
