Likewise, when ghouls, jackals, and the like appear; when anthills and similar formations suddenly arise; and even when creatures such as the godhā (iguana) and other animals fall unexpectedly—these too are counted as ominous signs.

The verse treats sudden, unsettling occurrences in nature and animal behavior as indicators of rising tamas and disharmony; it urges the devotee to restore inner and outer order through dharmic conduct and remembrance of Shiva, the Lord who dissolves fear and impurity.
Such portents are framed as calls to take refuge in Saguna Shiva—worship of the Shiva-linga with mantra and purity—so the mind turns from anxiety to devotion, and the environment is re-sacralized through Shiva-centered rites.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with calm breath, along with simple Shiva-linga worship using water and bilva leaves; if following Shaiva custom, applying tripuṇḍra bhasma and maintaining sattvic discipline are recommended.
