Praṇava-Māhātmya and the Twofold Mantra (Sūkṣma–Sthūla) in Śaiva Sādhanā
एवंक्रमेणमुक्ताः स्युर्ब्राह्मणा वै जितेंद्रि यः । अन्येषां च क्रमं वक्ष्ये गदतः शृणुतादरात्
evaṃkrameṇamuktāḥ syurbrāhmaṇā vai jiteṃdri yaḥ | anyeṣāṃ ca kramaṃ vakṣye gadataḥ śṛṇutādarāt
Thus, in this very order, the self-controlled brāhmaṇas indeed become liberated. Now I shall explain the prescribed sequence for the others as well—listen attentively to what I am saying.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Affirms krama (graded discipline) culminating in mukti; frames liberation as attainable through sense-restraint and Śiva-oriented observance rather than mere social identity.
It teaches that liberation is not accidental but arises from disciplined, sequential practice—especially sense-mastery—so the seeker becomes fit for Shiva’s grace and freedom from bondage.
The verse frames Linga-worship as a structured path: outer observance and inner restraint must proceed in an ordered way, making devotion to Saguna Shiva mature into liberating realization.
A practical takeaway is to follow the prescribed order of Shaiva practice—purity, disciplined conduct, and attentive listening to teachings—along with steady mantra-japa (such as the Panchakshara) supported by sense-control.
