Śivakṣetra–Tīrtha–Māhātmya
The Salvific Function of Shiva’s Sacred Domains
देवानां पूजया चैव ब्रह्मणानां च दानतः । तपोधिक्याच्च कालेन भोगः सह्यो भवेन्नृणाम् । तस्मात्पापमकृत्वैव वस्तव्यं सुखमिच्छता
devānāṃ pūjayā caiva brahmaṇānāṃ ca dānataḥ | tapodhikyācca kālena bhogaḥ sahyo bhavennṛṇām | tasmātpāpamakṛtvaiva vastavyaṃ sukhamicchatā
By worship of the gods, by giving gifts to the brāhmaṇas, and by the growth of tapas over time, worldly enjoyments become bearable for human beings. Therefore, one who seeks true happiness should live without committing sin.

It teaches that lasting well-being arises from dharmic living—worship, charity, and tapas purify the pashu (bound soul), making life’s experiences endurable and guiding one away from sin, which strengthens bondage (pāśa).
Though it mentions worship of the devas generally, in Shaiva Siddhanta the highest and most purifying worship is directed to Saguna Shiva (as Linga and Lord), and the same principles—puja, dana, and tapas—are core supports of Shiva-bhakti and inner purification.
A practical takeaway is to maintain daily worship (especially Shiva-puja), give regular charity—particularly to worthy brāhmaṇas and spiritual aspirants—and cultivate tapas through disciplined conduct; these help prevent sin and stabilize the mind for japa and meditation.
