शक्तितत्त्ववर्णनम् / Exposition of the Principle of Śakti
प्रसदादेव सा भक्तिः प्रसादो भक्तिसंभवः । अवस्थाभेदमुत्प्रेक्ष्य विद्वांस्तत्र न मुह्यति
prasadādeva sā bhaktiḥ prasādo bhaktisaṃbhavaḥ | avasthābhedamutprekṣya vidvāṃstatra na muhyati
That bhakti arises only from divine grace (prasāda), and grace in turn is born of bhakti. Seeing this as a difference of spiritual states, the wise are not deluded about it.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Frames bhakti and prasāda as mutually implicative: grace awakens devotion, and devotion ripens receptivity to further grace—encouraging sustained sādhana rather than transactional worship.
It teaches the Shaiva Siddhanta insight that liberation-oriented devotion is sustained by Shiva’s prasada, while sincere devotion also becomes a cause for receiving further grace—an apparent ‘circle’ resolved by recognizing different stages of ripening in the soul.
Linga worship and Saguna Shiva upasana cultivate steady bhakti through visible, repeatable acts (archana, abhisheka, japa). As devotion matures, Shiva’s grace becomes more evident, deepening the worshipper’s inner surrender beyond mere ritual into transforming communion.
Practice daily Panchakshara japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with Linga-abhiṣeka or simple water offering, dedicating the fruit to Shiva; this nurtures bhakti, and the devotee should inwardly pray for prasada (grace) to remove delusion and stabilize devotion.
