गौरीप्रवेशः—शिवसाक्षात्कारः
Gaurī’s Entry and the Vision of Śiva
तस्या वीर्यं बलं विन्ध्यनिलयं विजयं तथा । शुंभस्य च निशुंभस्य मारणे च रणे तयोः
tasyā vīryaṃ balaṃ vindhyanilayaṃ vijayaṃ tathā | śuṃbhasya ca niśuṃbhasya māraṇe ca raṇe tayoḥ
Her valor and strength—her dwelling in the Vindhya mountains and her assured victory—were all for the slaying of Śumbha and Niśumbha, and for triumph over them in battle.

Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Shakti Form: Durgā
Role: destructive
The verse frames divine strength and victory as instruments for removing adharma. In a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, Shakti operates under the supreme lordship of Pati (Shiva), dissolving the pasha-like forces of bondage represented by demonic powers.
Though the verse names a Devi-centered battle, the Shiva Purana places such victories within the wider Shaiva theology where Saguna manifestations (forms with attributes) protect devotees and restore dharma—supporting Linga worship as devotion to Shiva as the supreme refuge behind all divine acts.
A practical takeaway is to cultivate protective devotion through japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and steady dharma; the verse emphasizes inner courage and divine support rather than a specific external rite.
