If, in the bright fortnight of the month of Āśvina, one performs the vow according to the prescribed rule, then Śivā, the auspicious Divine Mother, continually fulfills all that person’s heart-desired aims.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Uma-saṃhitā teaching to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: Seasonal specification: in Āśvina śukla-pakṣa, performing the vrata by rule results in Śivā’s continual fulfillment of heartfelt aims—classic vrata-phala articulation (bhukti-oriented, with implied higher fruit).
Significance: Anchors Navarātra in Sharad season; promises iṣṭa-siddhi through Devī’s ongoing grace, encouraging disciplined observance (vidhānataḥ).
Shakti Form: Śivā
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
It teaches that disciplined observance (vrata) done “according to vidhi” becomes a channel for Śivā’s grace, through which righteous wishes are fulfilled—supporting devotion (bhakti) and steady spiritual progress under divine anugraha.
The verse highlights saguna-upāsanā: worship and vows performed with proper ritual order. In Shaiva practice, such vratas commonly accompany Linga worship, where Śiva and Śivā are honored together, and results are attributed to their compassionate, manifest grace.
It specifically recommends performing a vrata in Āśvina’s bright fortnight with correct procedure (vidhāna). Practically, this implies regulated worship—such as daily pūjā, mantra-japa (e.g., pañcākṣarī), and purity/discipline—carried out consistently during that sacred period.
