Durgama’s Seizure of the Vedas and the Gods’ Refuge in Yogamāyā (दुर्गमकृतवेदनाशः—योगमायाशरणगमनम्)
कृत्वा भीमं पुना रूपं रक्षांस्यत्स्याम्यहं यदा । भीमा देवीति विख्यातं तन्मे नाम भविष्यति
kṛtvā bhīmaṃ punā rūpaṃ rakṣāṃsyatsyāmyahaṃ yadā | bhīmā devīti vikhyātaṃ tanme nāma bhaviṣyati
“When I again assume a formidable form and become the slayer of the rākṣasas, then my name shall be renowned as ‘Bhīmā Devī.’”

It highlights Śakti’s compassionate fierceness: the Goddess takes a formidable (saguṇa) form to remove demonic obstacles, protecting dharma and enabling devotees to progress toward liberation under Śiva’s grace.
In Shaiva tradition, the Liṅga signifies Śiva as the supreme Pati, while the Goddess’ named forms (like Bhīmā Devī) express His inseparable Śakti acting in the world; worship of Śiva-Liṅga is thus complemented by reverence to Śakti’s protective manifestations.
A practical takeaway is protective devotion: worship Śiva with pañcākṣarī japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and invoke the Goddess’ fierce guardianship (Bhīmā Devī) for removal of inner and outer negativities.
