Account of the Birth/Origin of Vyāsa
मातर्यदा भवेत्कार्यं तव किंचिद्धृदीप्सितम् । संस्मृतश्चागमिष्यामि त्वदिच्छापूर्तिहेतवे
mātaryadā bhavetkāryaṃ tava kiṃciddhṛdīpsitam | saṃsmṛtaścāgamiṣyāmi tvadicchāpūrtihetave
“Mother, whenever there arises for you some task—anything desired in your heart—then, when you remember me, I shall surely come, for the sake of fulfilling your wish.”
Ganesha (inferred, addressing Mother Parvati in the Uma Samhita narrative tone)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Significance: Establishes smaraṇa (remembrance) as a functional ‘call’ that brings divine aid—akin to tīrtha-darśana: the Lord’s help becomes accessible through devotion and recollection.
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
Offering: pushpa
It teaches smaraṇa (devout remembrance) as an immediate bridge between the devotee and divine grace: heartfelt need, offered in trust, draws prompt assistance and protection.
It supports Saguna-bhakti within the Shaiva fold: remembering the personal divine (Shiva’s family and forms) is presented as efficacious, complementing Linga worship by making devotion intimate and responsive.
Practice nāma-smaraṇa and dhyāna—repeating a Shiva-oriented mantra (e.g., the Panchakshara) with single-pointed remembrance—especially when undertaking duties or seeking removal of obstacles.
