tvameva paramaṃ brahma māyāpāśanivartakaḥ | guṇatrayairna liptastvaṃ padmapatramivāṃbhasā
You alone are the Supreme Brahman, the One who removes the bondage of Māyā. Though present amid the three guṇas, you are not tainted by them—like a lotus leaf untouched by water.
A devotee-supplicant praising Lord Shiva in the Umāsaṃhitā discourse (as narrated within Suta Goswami’s overarching narration)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It identifies Shiva as Parabrahman (Pati) who alone can cut the māyā-pāśa (bondage), and teaches that he remains untouched by the guṇas, making him the reliable refuge for liberation.
Though Shiva is declared beyond the guṇas (nirguṇa), devotees approach him through saguna worship such as the Śiva-liṅga; the verse supports this by showing he can be present in the world without being contaminated by it.
Meditate on Shiva as the remover of māyā-bondage while repeating the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), cultivating detachment—like the lotus leaf in water—along with simple Śiva-pūjā (liṅga abhiṣeka) where possible.
