sūta uvāca | pūjayedvidhivadbhaktyācāryyaṃ śrutvā kathāṃ parām | granthānte vidhivaddadyādācāryyāya prasannadhīḥ
Sūta said: Having heard this supreme sacred narrative, one should, with devotion, honor the teacher according to proper rite. And at the conclusion of the text, with a serene and pleased mind, one should duly offer a gift to the teacher.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Significance: Establishes kathā-śravaṇa completion rite: guru-pūjā and guru-dakṣiṇā; in Śaiva Siddhānta, honoring the ācārya supports eligibility for Śiva-anugraha and continued sādhanā.
Role: teaching
Offering: naivedya
It teaches that receiving Shaiva scripture is completed by humility and gratitude: honoring the ācārya and offering dāna seals the merit of hearing and aligns the devotee with dharma and bhakti.
In the Shiva Purana, devotion to Saguna Shiva is supported by right tradition (vidhi) and guidance from the guru; honoring the teacher is part of the same devotional discipline that sustains Linga-worship and scriptural understanding.
It recommends a practical rite: after completing the kathā, perform proper guru-pūjā and offer guru-dakṣiṇā (a respectful gift), maintaining a calm and pleased mind.
