Manu’s Progeny and the Birth of Iḍā
Genealogy and Dharma-Choice
इति प्रोक्तो हि शर्यातेर्वंशोऽन्येषां वदाम्यहम् । मानवानां हि संक्षेपाच्छृणुतादरतो द्विजाः
iti prokto hi śaryātervaṃśo'nyeṣāṃ vadāmyaham | mānavānāṃ hi saṃkṣepācchṛṇutādarato dvijāḥ
Thus has the lineage of Śaryāti been narrated. Now I shall speak of the other lines of men as well—listen attentively, O twice-born sages, to this account in brief.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It marks a transition in sacred narration: attentive listening (śravaṇa) to dharmic history is presented as a disciplined means to receive purāṇic wisdom that ultimately supports devotion to Pati (Śiva) and right understanding of life’s order.
Though the verse is genealogical, it frames the purāṇic method: hearing the traditions of righteous lineages prepares the mind for Saguna Śiva-upāsanā taught elsewhere in the text, where devotion is strengthened through reverent listening and remembrance.
Śravaṇa with ādarā (reverent hearing) is implied—listening to the Purāṇa in a focused, respectful manner as a devotional discipline; no specific bhasma, rudrākṣa, or mantra practice is directly stated in this verse.
