It highlights inner purity (śauca) and disciplined restraint (niyama, especially brahmacarya) as sacred supports for dharma—showing that spiritual fruition is strengthened by self-control and consecrated conduct.
Such vows and purity are classic preparatory disciplines for Saguna Shiva worship—approaching the Linga with regulated senses and a vow-bound mind, so devotion becomes steady and fit to receive Shiva’s grace.
Adopt vrata-like niyamas—brahmacarya, cleanliness, and restraint—along with focused japa of a Shiva-mantra (commonly the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) during observances such as Mahashivratri.
