Praise of Water-Gift and the Construction of Wells and Tanks
सत्येन वायुरभ्येति सत्येन तपते रविः । सत्येनाग्निर्निर्दहति स्वर्गस्सत्येन तिष्ठति
satyena vāyurabhyeti satyena tapate raviḥ | satyenāgnirnirdahati svargassatyena tiṣṭhati
By truth the wind moves; by truth the Sun burns with heat. By truth fire blazes and consumes; and heaven itself stands established by truth.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Interprets satya as the sustaining law (ṛta/dharma) by which cosmic functions operate; supports the Siddhānta view that the Lord’s niyati (ordering power) governs vāyu, sūrya, agni, and svarga.
It teaches that satya (truthfulness) is not merely ethics but a sustaining power of ṛta/dharma: the very stability of the cosmos reflects truth. For a Shaiva seeker, living in truth aligns the individual (paśu) with Shiva’s order (Pati), weakening bondage (pāśa).
Linga worship emphasizes inner purity and integrity; offerings and mantra become fruitful when supported by satya. Saguna Shiva, as the Lord who upholds dharma, is pleased by truthfulness, making worship a lived practice rather than only a ritual act.
Adopt a satya-vrata (vow of truth) alongside daily Shiva practice—japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with honest self-examination, and maintaining purity in conduct while wearing bhasma/rudraksha if one’s tradition permits.
