भैरवावतारलीलावर्णनम् (Bhairava-avatāra-līlā-varṇanam) — “Narration of the Divine Play of Bhairava’s Descent”
यं विदुर्व्वेदतत्त्वज्ञा योगिनो यतमानसाः । अरूपो रूपवान्भूत्वा सोऽयमायाति सर्वगः
yaṃ vidurvvedatattvajñā yogino yatamānasāḥ | arūpo rūpavānbhūtvā so'yamāyāti sarvagaḥ
He whom the knowers of Vedic truth and the steadfast-minded yogins realize—though formless, He assumes a form; thus that all-pervading Lord appears to the devotees and to the world.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Mantra: यं विदुर्व्वेदतत्त्वज्ञा योगिनो यतमानसाः । अरूपो रूपवान्भूत्वा सोऽयमायाति सर्वगः
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It teaches that Shiva is simultaneously transcendent (formless, beyond attributes) and immanent (able to manifest a form). Realization by Veda-knowers and yogins culminates in recognizing this unity of nirguṇa and saguṇa aspects of Pati (Shiva).
The verse supports Shaiva practice by affirming that the formless Lord can be approached through a manifest symbol or form. Linga-worship honors Shiva’s transcendent reality while accepting His gracious self-manifestation for the devotee’s focus and liberation.
A disciplined yogic mind (dhyāna with restraint) is emphasized; in practice, devotees commonly pair meditation with Shiva-upāsanā such as japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and contemplative worship of the Linga as the all-pervading Shiva made accessible.
