Śiva–Arjuna Yuddha and the Subjugation of Pride (Śiva-parīkṣā)
अर्जुन उवाच । किं ब्रूयां त्वं च सर्वेषामन्तर्यामितया स्थितः । तथापि वर्णितं मेऽद्य श्रूयतां च त्वया विभो
arjuna uvāca | kiṃ brūyāṃ tvaṃ ca sarveṣāmantaryāmitayā sthitaḥ | tathāpi varṇitaṃ me'dya śrūyatāṃ ca tvayā vibho
Arjuna said: “What can I say, when You abide within all beings as their Inner Controller? Yet, O all-pervading Lord, I have spoken today as best as I can—may it still be heard and accepted by You.”
Arjuna
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
It expresses bhakti grounded in Shaiva insight: Shiva is antaryāmin (the indwelling Lord) who already knows all, yet the devotee still offers sincere speech as an act of surrender and grace-seeking.
Though Shiva is the formless indwelling Reality (nirguṇa as antaryāmin), Arjuna addresses Him personally as Vibhu, showing how nirguṇa truth is approached through saguna devotion—like worshiping the Linga as the accessible focus of the all-pervading Lord.
Practice inward remembrance of Shiva as antaryāmin while reciting the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), offering one’s words and thoughts as a humble stuti; this aligns well with japa done with rudrākṣa and a calm, surrendered mind.
