ऋषभचरित्रवर्णनम् (Ṛṣabha-caritra-varṇanam) — “Account of Ṛṣabha’s Sacred Narrative”
सुमुखो दुर्मुखश्चैव दुदर्भो दुरतिक्रमः । शिष्यैः साहाय्यं व्यासस्य करिष्येऽहं तदा विधे
sumukho durmukhaścaiva dudarbho duratikramaḥ | śiṣyaiḥ sāhāyyaṃ vyāsasya kariṣye'haṃ tadā vidhe
Sumukha, Durmukha, Dudarbha, and Duratikrama—together with my disciples—shall then render assistance to Vyāsa, O Creator (Vidhe).
A divine attendant/gaṇa addressing Brahma (Vidhe) within the Shatarudrasaṃhitā narrative
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Cosmic Event: Providential deployment of assistants to safeguard revelation (Vyāsa’s work) within cyclic time.
The verse highlights that the preservation and correct transmission of dharma is upheld through divinely guided assistance; sacred knowledge is not merely human effort but supported by higher powers aligned with Shiva’s order (śiva-ājñā) and cosmic governance.
Though it does not directly mention the Liṅga, it supports Saguna Shiva’s governance through his cosmic network—devas and gaṇas—who safeguard scripture and practice, ensuring devotees receive authentic teachings that culminate in Shiva-bhakti and liberation.
The practical takeaway is seva (service) to the tradition—supporting teachers, study, recitation (svādhyāya), and disciplined preservation of texts—alongside steady Shaiva devotion such as japa of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) where applicable.
