उपमन्युकुमारस्य क्षीरार्थ-प्रार्थना तथा शिवप्रसाद-निबन्धनम् | Upamanyu’s Longing for Milk and the Doctrine of Shiva’s Grace
अजरश्चामरश्च त्वं सर्वदा दुःखवर्जित । सर्वपूज्यो निर्विकारी भक्तानाम्प्रवरो भव
ajaraścāmaraśca tvaṃ sarvadā duḥkhavarjita | sarvapūjyo nirvikārī bhaktānāmpravaro bhava
You are ageless and deathless, ever free from sorrow. Worthy of worship by all, changeless and without modification—be the foremost refuge and exemplar among Your devotees.
A devotee/praiser addressing Lord Shiva (as narrated within Suta Goswami’s discourse in the Shatarudrasaṃhitā)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Type: stotra
It affirms Shiva as Pati—ageless, deathless, sorrowless, and nirvikāra (unchanging). Meditating on these attributes steadies the devotee in bhakti and dispassion, orienting the mind toward liberation rather than transient states.
Though Shiva is described as changeless and beyond modification, devotees approach Him through worship (pūjā) in accessible forms such as the Śiva-liṅga—Saguna devotion leading the mind to the Nirguna, sorrowless reality indicated by the verse.
Perform Śiva-pūjā with steady remembrance of Shiva as duḥkha-varjita and nirvikāra, repeating the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while offering water and bilva leaves, and concluding with silent contemplation of His changeless nature.
