tapasā tasya bālasya hyupamanyormahātmanaḥ | carācaraṃ ca bhuvanaṃ pradīpitamabhūnmune
O sage, by the austerities of that noble-souled boy Upamanyu, the entire universe—both the moving and the unmoving—became illumined, as though set aglow.

Tattva Level: pashu
Cosmic Event: tapas-tejas pervading the carācara-jagat (cosmic illumination motif)
It teaches that sincere tapas performed with single-pointed devotion becomes spiritually luminous, purifying the practitioner and radiating sanctity into the whole cosmos—signifying Shiva’s grace responding to earnest effort.
Upamanyu’s tapas is directed toward Saguna Shiva—the compassionate Lord accessible through worship. In the Shiva Purana narrative arc, such devotion culminates in Shiva’s manifest blessing, often associated with Linga-centered worship and disciplined observance.
It implies steady austerity with devotional focus—such as daily Shiva-puja, japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and disciplined observances (vrata) undertaken with purity and humility.
