Those two kings, Haṃsa and Ḍimbha—base men who trafficked in contempt—were destroyed by that Lord, after He had issued an instruction to Hari.

The verse highlights that avamāna (contempt and insult) born of ego leads to downfall; the Lord protects dharma by removing adharmic rulers, teaching that humility and devotion are essential for spiritual progress.
In the Shiva Purana’s Saguna framework, the Lord actively restores order; Linga-worship trains the devotee in reverence and surrender—the opposite of avamāna—so the devotee aligns with Shiva’s dharmic will.
Practice ego-purification through daily Panchakshara japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and a vow of respectful speech and conduct, avoiding nindā (disparagement) and avamāna.
