O supreme sage, from a portion of Viṣṇu, Dattātreya was born to Atri’s wife; through him the highest discipline of saṃnyāsa, holy renunciation, was greatly established and expanded.

Tattva Level: pashu
Role: teaching
It highlights renunciation (saṃnyāsa) as a supreme means for turning away from bondage and moving toward liberation, showing how great teachers establish disciplined spiritual life for seekers.
Saṃnyāsa supports Saguna Shiva worship by simplifying life into steady devotion, mantra, and inner worship—making the mind fit to realize Shiva as Pati (the Lord) beyond worldly ties.
The takeaway is adopting a renunciate discipline: daily japa (especially Shiva-mantra such as the Panchakshara), meditation on detachment, and a life of restraint and purity aligned with moksha-seeking.
