Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Mantra: śāstā japāda hirbudhnya śaṃbhu caṇḍa bhava
Type: stotra
It presents a sequence of Rudra-epithets, teaching that Shiva is simultaneously benevolent (Śambhu) and fierce (Caṇḍa), the supreme Pati who protects devotees and dissolves bondage.
Reciting Shiva’s names is Saguna-upasana: the many names point to the one Linga-consciousness, allowing the devotee to approach the formless Pati through accessible divine attributes.
Name-recitation (nāma-japa) and mantra-japa: chant these epithets with devotion, ideally alongside Panchakshara japa and offerings like bilva leaves, cultivating remembrance of Shiva throughout the day.
