शिवस्तुतिवर्णनम् (Śiva-stuti-varṇanam) — “Description of Hymns in Praise of Śiva”
शिव उवाच । हे ब्रह्मन् यद्यहं देवराजस्सम्राट् प्रकीर्त्तितः । तत्प्रकारो न मे कश्चिद्गृह्णीयां यमिह प्रभुः
śiva uvāca | he brahman yadyahaṃ devarājassamrāṭ prakīrttitaḥ | tatprakāro na me kaścidgṛhṇīyāṃ yamiha prabhuḥ
Śiva said: “O Brahmā, even if I am praised as the sovereign emperor above the lord of the gods, here I do not accept such a mode of lordship; nor, in this matter, do I assume any dominion as a ruler.”
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Role: teaching
It highlights Shiva’s transcendence of worldly rank: even being hailed as “emperor of the gods” is not the essence of his divine reality. In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, Shiva (Pati) is not defined by temporary cosmic offices but by supreme, unconditioned lordship that liberates the soul.
Linga worship points to Shiva beyond limited identities. While Saguna forms aid devotion, this verse reminds devotees not to reduce Shiva to a mere celestial monarch; the Linga signifies the Supreme who stands beyond all deva-status and governance.
Meditate on Shiva with the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” contemplating him as Pati beyond all titles; offer vibhuti (Tripuṇḍra) and maintain inner humility, relinquishing the ego’s desire for authority and control.
