Then, O sage, in a short time all of Tripura was filled and overrun by the sage’s disciples and grand-disciples—great wielders of Mahā-Māyā—spreading everywhere through the three cities.

It highlights how māyā can rapidly pervade and dominate an entire realm—symbolically, the mind and world of the bound soul (paśu). In Shaiva Siddhanta, liberation requires Shiva’s grace to transcend such māyic coverings.
Tripura’s māyā-driven expansion contrasts with the stabilizing refuge of Saguna Shiva worship—especially the Linga—where devotion and surrender invite Shiva’s anugraha (grace) that cuts through māyā and restores dharma.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Panchakshara mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with steady dhyāna on Shiva as Pati (the Lord beyond māyā), supported by Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrāksha as reminders of non-attachment and purity.
