Chapter on the Ordinance of Initiation
हरिणा च तदा हस्ते धृत्वा च गुरवेर्पिताः । अभ्यधायि च सुप्रीत्या तन्नामापि विशेषतः
hariṇā ca tadā haste dhṛtvā ca guraverpitāḥ | abhyadhāyi ca suprītyā tannāmāpi viśeṣataḥ
Then Hari took them in his hand and offered them to his guru. With great joy, he reverently uttered their names as well—clearly, fully, and in every detail.

It highlights guru-bhakti as a core purifier: even a great deity like Hari models humility—offering what he holds and carefully reciting names with devotion, showing that disciplined reverence is a doorway to Shiva’s grace.
Linga-worship in the Shiva Purana is transmitted through proper lineage and instruction; presenting offerings to the guru and reciting sacred names ‘specifically’ reflects the exactness (vidhi) and heartfelt devotion (bhāva) required in Saguna Shiva worship.
Perform guru-sevā and practice nāma-smaraṇa: respectfully offer what is meant for worship, then recite the sacred names/mantras attentively and with joy—an approach aligned with Shaiva devotional discipline.
