Chapter on the Ordinance of Initiation
मुण्ड्युवाच । यत्कर्तव्यं मया देव द्रुतमादिश तत्प्रभो । त्वदाज्ञयाखिलं कर्म सफलश्च भविष्यति
muṇḍyuvāca | yatkartavyaṃ mayā deva drutamādiśa tatprabho | tvadājñayākhilaṃ karma saphalaśca bhaviṣyati
Muṇḍī said: “O Deva, O Lord, quickly command me what I must do, O Prabhu. By Your very order, every action becomes fruitful and attains its intended result.”
Muṇḍī
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Role: teaching
The verse highlights śaraṇāgati (surrender): when the devotee aligns personal effort with Lord Shiva’s will (ājñā), karma becomes purified and effective, pointing to Shaiva Siddhānta’s emphasis on grace-guided action rather than ego-driven doership.
In Saguna Shiva worship—especially Linga worship—the devotee approaches Shiva as the living Lord who directs and sanctifies action. This verse mirrors the devotional stance: “Tell me what to do,” making ritual and life-actions offerings performed under Shiva’s lordship.
A practical takeaway is saṅkalpa with surrender: begin japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and mentally offer the fruits of all actions to Shiva, seeking inner guidance before undertaking any ritual, vrata, or service.
