देवस्तुतिः — Hymn of Praise by the Devas
Devastuti
त्वं महाद्भुतसल्लीलो भक्तिगम्यो दुरासदः । दुराराध्योऽसतां नाथ प्रसन्नस्सर्वदा भव
tvaṃ mahādbhutasallīlo bhaktigamyo durāsadaḥ | durārādhyo'satāṃ nātha prasannassarvadā bhava
You are the Lord of wondrous and auspicious divine play—approachable through devotion, yet unassailable. O Master, for the untrue and impure you are difficult to propitiate; therefore, be ever gracious and pleased with us.
A devotee/supplicant addressing Lord Shiva (as narrated within Suta Goswami’s Shiva Purana discourse)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Mantra: त्वं महाद्भुतसल्लीलो भक्तिगम्यो दुरासदः । दुराराध्योऽसतां नाथ प्रसन्नस्सर्वदा भव
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It declares Shiva as both transcendent and compassionate: unreachable to ego and impurity, yet readily attainable through sincere bhakti, emphasizing that liberation depends on Shiva’s grace received through devotion and inner purification.
It supports Saguna upasana: the devotee approaches Shiva through loving devotion and prayer for prasada (grace). Linga worship becomes effective when accompanied by bhakti and purity, not merely external ritual.
Cultivate bhakti with daily japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple Linga-puja, while maintaining sattvic conduct; the verse stresses that purity and devotion invite Shiva’s constant prasannata (graciousness).
